HRx Client Success Story
Joanie, the Practice Manager of a dental clinic, called me for assistance. They were having serious issues within their team. One person had just left in a huff and the team was all confused and frustrated with how things were being handled. They wanted an objective third party to come in and assess the situation and set the stage for a more successful team.
So, I went into the office and met all the employees. Joanie introduced me and explained that I was there to listen to each employees concerns and propose a solution for the practice. I interviewed all the employees and discovered a wide variety of issues.
Unfortunately, I discovered was that one of the employees was subtly sabotaging the other employees. She was checking in with patients after they were treated by other hygienists and giving additional advice that was sometimes contrary to the other hygienists and doctors opinions!
I also discovered that the person who quit had been complaining to a manager about the sabotaging employee. But that manager took no action, which ultimately caused the complaining employee to quit. The result was a true waste of talent.
To communicate the issues to the doctors so they better understood the dynamics that had created the team dysfunction, i created a written report as well as presented the report in person. We conducted an all-employee meeting to clearly present the behaviors that would and would no longer be tolerated. We also coached the individual who was sabotaging regarding her inappropriate behaviors (of which there were many). Unfortunately, she elected not to accept the coaching and after multiple chances, was let go.
We realigned the organization, promoted a qualified person into a lead role, and the debilitating employee issues disappeared. Sometimes a new listener can really make a difference when they bring a new perspective and have no allegiances that get in the way of objectivity .
